Food Pantry

The Mt. Olive Food Pantry, operated out of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, serves as an emergency food source for families facing a variety of crises as well as the homeless. Christ Lutheran Church collects non-perishable items the FIRST SUNDAY of every month for the Mt. Olive Food Pantry. Typically our church’s annual goal has to do with weight. However, it’s not always the heavy items that are the most needed. In 2009, we will lift up the needs of the homeless as Mt. Olive provides 250 lunches to the homeless every week. Additionally, it distributes 250 hygiene kits each month.

First, let it be known that you can bring ANY NON-PERISHABLE ITEM and it will be greatly appreciated. However, below is a list of the items for the homeless and our donations of these items can help to off-set the food pantry’s costs.

Homeless Lunch Bags
Little cans of Vienna Sausage (pop-top)
Fruit cups (pop-top)
Saltine crackers
Fruit juice (small plastic bottles)
Small bags of chips (lunch size)
Packets of peanut butter or cheese crackers

Hygiene Kits - Travel-size items of the following: Lotion, Shampoo, Bar of Soap, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Razor

Another Need - Small canned hams

2009 FOOD DRIVE WRAP-UP

A total of 321 pounds of non-perishable items was collected in December for the Mt. Olive Food Pantry, ending 2009 with 5,171 pounds. In almost six years, you have donated 38,000 pounds of food to this ministry (year-by-year breakdown below).

This past year we’ve focused on the needs of the homeless and the totals of those items follow: Vienna sausages 799, fruit cups 898, saltine crackers 37, fruit juice 729, snack-size chips 658, peanut butter/cheese crackers 1170, lotion 327, shampoo 357, soap 575, toothbrushes 54, toothpaste 92 and razors 112. These numbers are wonderful, but to illustrate the food pantry’s needs, 13,000 of each of the lunch items are needed to provide the weekly lunches and 3,000 of each of the small toiletry items are needed for the montly hygiene kits.

Once we hear from Mt. Olive regarding its greatest needs for next year, we will announce the 2010 goal for Christ Lutheran Church. Again, thank you for the generous hearts in supporting this effort.
