Music Notes…and More

I believe that the Lenten season is one of the most wonderful and thought-filled times on the Christian calendar. It is a time for us to STOP and reflect on our lives. What is important? What isn’t? It is a time to reflect and study on the sacrifice that our Lord made for us, the children He so loves, that He gave up His life.

One of the most famous of scriptures says this to us. It was our anthem on the second Sunday of Lent. John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish by may have eternal life.” The music of Lent is especially inspiring as we worship Him each Sunday along the journey to the cross.

Our Sanctuary choir has been working on many new anthems for this season of Lent.On Palm Sunday they will be singing two glorious anthems: “Hosanna to the King” by Dan Forrest and “Let This Mind Be In You” by Craig Courtney. On Good Friday, we will present a Tenebrae service written by Benjamin Harlan entitled “Behold the Darkness”.

Our journey ends. And then: He Is Risen: Alleluia, He Is Risen Indeed!!! This Easter Sunday will be filled with joyous music in celebration of our Risen Lord. At 8:30 and 11:00 you won’t want to miss a very special prelude featuring our Sanctuary Bell Choir, our trumpeter for the day, Brandon Parsons, and the organ as they play “Christ Is Alive! All Christians Sing”, written by Janet Linker and Jane McFadden. Worship will also feature many of your favorite Easter Hymns with organ and trumpet and our closing hymn will be “Lift High the Cross” arranged by Hal Hopson, again featuring Bells, Trumpet and Organ accompaniment. The offertory anthem for the day will be Craig Courtney’s “Hark Ten Thousand Harps and Voices.

So as you can see, a lot of people are very busy during this wonderful time of year. Here’s more good news. It’s not too late for you to come be a part of one or both of our wonderful choirs. Our rehearsal times during the season of Lent are:
