|
The Dorcas Circle takes its name from the beloved woman in Acts 12. According to Acts, Dorcas “was devoted to good works and acts of charity.” Dorcas Circle is a real ‘working arm’ of Women of the ELCA and has been a ‘force’ in the life of Christ Lutheran Church almost from the Church’s founding in the late ‘40s—albeit by other names. The Circle was formed in 1996 with the merging of the Ruth and Mary Martha Circles, which had grown out of the old neighborhood concept of forming such groups. The strength of Dorcas Circle stems from the faithfulness of the Holy Spirit in guiding the lives of members, instilling a sense of personal concern, and fostering deep and lasting friendships. Bible study is based on Lutheran Women Today (study leaders meet with Pastor Bill on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss the material) and encourages the participation of all members in the study both during and between meetings. |
