The Lydia Circle is named after Lydia, who was an influential businesswoman, a dealer in purple cloth, and who opened the way for ministry in the Macedonia region, as described in Acts 16:13-15.  She was Paul’s first Christian convert in Europe and noted for her hospitality to Christian missionaries.

Bible Studies

Lydia Circle is currently studying “Cherish the Word: Reflections on Luther’s Spirituality.” Members volunteer to lead the study each month.  This circle caters to the working woman and encourages members to bring their own dinner or snack.  Each member is encouraged to share a “Top Pick” (favorite new book, movie, CD, etc.).  Lydia focuses on prayer and a list of “prayer requests” is shared each month.  This circle also has a “Secret Prayer Pal” program.

Comfort Pillows

At least twice a year, the members of Lydia Circle meet on a Saturday morning to make comfort pillows to be donated to the American Cancer Society.  Lydia Circle collects donations from the congregation, as well as circle members, of brightly colored material for the pillowcases and new or freshly laundered white material for the covering of the pillows.

The stuffing for the pillows is made from nylon hose with all seams, thick places and non-nylon pieces cut off.  A collection of nylon hose is continued throughout the year.  Lydia members spend time during the year, as well as on the workdays, cutting the hose into tiny lengths to be stuffed into the pillows.

Workdays are spent cutting, sewing and constructing the pillows.  A label is sewn into each pillow, indicating that it was made “with love” by the women of Christ Lutheran Church.  Members bring breakfast dishes and coffee to share and enjoy a day of fellowship and community to serve others.  The pillows are then taken to the local American Cancer Society to be distributed to cancer patients in the area.
