Advent observations

“Rejoice,” writes St. Paul, “and again I say, ‘Rejoice!’” What better word to describe the upcoming events at Christ Lutheran Church during the month of December?

Inspiring worship on the four Sundays in Advent, as we light the Advent wreath, gaze upon the blue paraments (the color of hope),  observe the Christmas tree being transformed week by week, and sing the prayer, “O come, O come, Emmanuel.”

Special Advent worship services, each Wednesday evening, from 7:00-7:45. Titled “Yet In thy Dark Streets Shineth,” these services focus on our Advent journey to three significant locations in ancient Israel: Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem, highlighting the coming of the Lord. Worship will be held on December 2, 9, and 16.

Our annual Advent cantata, sung by our adult choir at both services on Sunday, December 13. This year’s cantata is called “I Hear the Prophet Callin’.” The cantata will be the sermon for the day.

Congregational Christmas dinner on Sunday, December 13, immediately following the second service. Come rejoice with your sisters and brothers in Christ as we break bread together in our lovely new fellowship hall. It will be a catered affair, and we will have a sign-up sheet in the narthex where you can indicate how many children and adults will attend.
Christmas caroling on Sunday, December 20, beginning with lunch at 12:30, as we bring the joy of Christmas to our homebound members.

Friends at Christ Christmas party, at the home of Pastor Bill and Carol Waxenberg, on December 20.

Christmas Eve worship on December 24, with a Traditional Service at 3:00 pm; a Family Service, designed especially for children, at 5:00 pm; and Candlelight worship at 10:00 pm.

Come, let us rejoice, for the Lord has come!
