Community Events
Spring Fling is an annual picnic and carnival held on our church lawn after Sunday worship. Children and adults alike enjoy lunch and snacks as well as fun activities such as bounce houses, a petting zoo, crafts, music, face painting, piñatas and raffle games. Spring Fling brings together children and families from our church, preschool and neighborhood for an afternoon of Christian fellowship.

Trunk or Treat is a fun alternative to traditional Trick-or-Treating and a great way for the members of Christ Lutheran to minister to our own children and families as well as those of our community. CLC members dress in costumes and offer candy from the trunks of their cars. And children from the church, preschool and neighborhood come to show off their Halloween attire and fill their bags with candy.

Local Outreach
Back on My Feet
Back On My Feet is a nationwide program to promote self-sufficiency in the lives of those experiencing homelessness. We are very pleased to have this important ministry as part of our congregation. The Dallas chapter of Back on My Feet uses our facilities monthly to host education programs on financial literacy, resume writing, interview skills, and more.
|
For the last five years, Christ Lutheran Church has hosted the Back on My Feet Thanksgiving dinner, a holiday feast enjoyed by church members, Back on My Feet clients, and organization staff and volunteers.

Fill a Basket, Fill a Need
With Thanksgiving coming pretty soon, CLC has an opportunity to help those in need who are being served by the Mt Olive Lutheran Food Pantry. We are collecting baskets of groceries to make a bountiful Thanksgiving meal. During September and October, with the combined efforts of the congregation and the Preschool, our goal is to fill 50 baskets and thus fulfill the need of 50 families! So as you do your grocery shopping, consider picking up an additional item or two for a Thanksgiving basket. We're collecting these donations every Sunday in September and October.

Meals on Wheels
The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Meals on Wheels program provides hot, nutritious, freshly prepared meals five days a week to Dallas County residents who can’t provide for themselves due to illness, advanced age or disability. These meals contribute to the overall well-being of participating seniors, including those with chronic illnesses that are affected by diet, such as diabetes and heart disease, and those who are homebound.
|
Drivers pick up meals at 10:30 a.m. and deliver hot meals and smiles to 12-14 seniors each day. The daily schedule averages 300 routes and 200 drivers, of which half are volunteers. Many members of Christ Lutheran Church are active volunteers with the VNA Meals on Wheels program.
Mt. Olive Food Pantry
Please bring your non-perishable items to either service on the first Sunday of each month to contribute to this worthy cause. You may also give financially to the food pantry by writing a check to Christ Lutheran with "food pantry" in the memo line.
In addition to collecting food for the Mt. Olive Food Pantry, our members also volunteer at the pantry on the fifth Wednesday of the month. We pack and hand out sack lunches to homeless and hungry individuals on this date.

Outreach Sunday
Since 2013, the ELCA has called on all congregations to have a "God's Work, Our Hands" Sunday. On this day, we perform outreach activities in our communities. Here at Christ Lutheran, we hold a special Outreach Sunday worship service in which we are commissioned for mission. Then we depart the church in groups to engage in various service projects, such as handing out breakfast to day laborers, organizing pantries at food kitchens, mowing grass and landscaping at other churches, making health kids for Lutheran World Relief and much more.
Texas Ramps Project
The Texas Ramp Project was founded in 2006 with the mission of establishing organizations throughout Texas-based on the practices of the Dallas Ramp Project. The Dallas Ramp Project was initiated in the 1980s by the Richardson, Texas, Kiwanis club and operated as a non-profit entity until December 31, 2012, when it merged into the Texas Ramp Project.
Today, Texas Ramp Project has branches in more than 20 Texas cities and serves clients in more than 100 counties across the state. Since 2006, the organization and its volunteers have built nearly 4,200 wheelchair ramps. All materials and tools are provided, and experienced builders assist with the work.

National/International Outreach
Lutheran World Relief
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is an international non-profit organization that works with local partners to provide lasting solutions to poverty, injustice and human suffering. Through these partnerships, LWR strives to improve the lives of small farmers and their families, and to help them adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. The agency also provides emergency assistance such as natural disaster response (hurricanes, typhoons, etc.), dangerous political unrest, and medical disasters and outbreaks. The goal is to help communities recover from disasters in ways that promote lasting improvements in people's living conditions. Learn more at www.lwr.org.

Christ Lutheran Church has long participated in LWR's Quilts and Kits program, which provides needed personal care, infant care, school supplies, fabrics and quilts to people in the areas that LWR serves. We are also a congregation that realizes how blessed we are and gives freely out of that gratitude when crises arise. In the last few years, we have provided financial gifts for Ebola aid, typhoon relief, hurricane relief and other disasters. In addition, the children of our congregation have given offerings to help people in developing countries to purchase livestock, seeds, and other commodities that help them to become self-sustaining. Our LWR coordinator at Christ Lutheran is Elaine Smith.
Upbring
The agency's mission is to break the cycle of child abuse by empowering children, families and communities. Upbring strives to accomplish this mission through a continuum of services and community partnerships, each tracking progress against markers of safety, life skills, education, health, and vocation, all of which are critical to breaking the cycle of child abuse.
Christ Lutheran Church supports Upbring in a variety of ways, including collecting school supplies and Christmas gifts for children in foster care, inviting children and foster parents to events like our Spring Fling and Trunk or Treat, and participating in the agency's annual fundraiser.
