The unfortunate events that have taken place along the Texas Coast over the past few days, and still continue, have left all of us at JHG Texas scrambling to find ways in which we can help. After all, our mission statement reads Texans Helping Texans and what could be a worthier cause than to support fellow Texans in and around the Houston area. Currently, it is not clear how we can best support the humanitarian efforts in Houston, Galveston or Freeport, among other places, since waters are still very high and everyone on the ground is rightfully preoccupied with saving human lives.
However, we believe that refugees will soon be streaming into the DFW Metroplex in search of shelter. Current estimates are that we will receive upward of 40,000 refugees and many of them will be forced to stay for months. There are a number of large and small venues that are ready to take in anyone who seeks help. To manage, they need basic supplies ranging from water and toiletries to clothing and underwear. The best way in which we can help at this moment is to procure these things and to distribute them quickly.
Marcus Edmonds has graciously agreed lead our efforts for Hurricane Harvey Relief. As an immediate first step, he will procure and deliver the mentioned materials that the shelters need most. We will then evaluate how we can best support those who need our help the most. If you would like to donate funds for this effort, please send your check, made out to “JHG Texas”, to the following address:
